About The John Denver Aspenglow Fund

The John Denver Aspenglow Fund was created after the sale of John Denver’s Windstar property (located in Old Snowmass, Colorado) in April 2013. The Aspenglow Fund allocates its funds to local, successful causes that speak to John Denver’s legacy and vision for a world that works.

About Roaring Wild: A Forum for Youth and The Environment

The Roaring Wild: A Forum for Youth and The Environment is an exciting project by Aspen Public Radio, made possible through the generosity of the John Denver Aspenglow Fund.

The goal of this project is to give students (K-12) a place online to showcase their environmental and outdoor experiences through writing, art, photography, film, and any other creative method that can be displayed in an online format. Many schools in the Roaring Fork Valley have Outdoor Education programs, where students and teachers spend time in the wilderness, visit national parks, or study nature in the backyard. They also regularly take their students into the environment to take part in the living classroom that is just outside their doors. The Roaring Wild will give students from Aspen to Carbondale an opportunity to share their experiences in nature with other students and the community at large.

The website will be hosted and maintained by Aspen Public Radio’s Digital Content Manager. It welcomes submissions from all students and teachers. Aspen Public Radio will vet all submissions to ensure the content is appropriate. No doubt, most submissions will be accepted and publicly posted. The Roaring Wild is expected to receive a couple hundred visits per day – giving students sizeable exposure. The online format will allow students to share their work with friends and family who may not live in the valley, and will demonstrate the importance of these outdoor programs for youth development.

Participation is open to all students at local schools and educational non-profits throughout the Roaring Fork Valley.
